A boxed server at LD4 is not yet a ready installation. The rail kit, reserved rack position, customer port plan and remote acceptance contact determine whether an evening visit can complete the job.
Uplink covers weekday evenings and weekends as regular working hours. Book an LD4 engineer against your installation window; our available urgent attendance target is within 40 minutes, with the ETA confirmed for each request. Scheduled deployments should have an agreed slot and parts check before the day.
Put the correct destination on the shipment
Use Equinix LD4, 2 Buckingham Avenue, Slough Trading Estate, Slough, SL1 4NB alongside the customer delivery references required by the operator. The facility's postal address alone does not identify your shipment or grant an engineer permission to collect it.
Confirm the received status with the site or your authorised contact and send the collection reference. For several servers, provide a serial-number list and identify which box belongs to each rack position. Decide who handles packaging, accessories and any equipment that remains uninstalled.
Prepare a physical installation pack
List the exact server model, rail-kit part number, rack type and reserved U position. Include the equipment weight and handling requirements so we can agree suitable people and equipment before attendance. This is planning information; the installation follows the manufacturer's instructions and site rules.
Ask your technical owner to approve the customer power and port schedule. Identify the outlets and connectors the engineer should use, the network ports, patch-panel references, optics and lead lengths. The person at the rack should not have to choose between similar unlabelled connections to meet an evening deadline.
- Server and matching rail-kit references
- Reserved rack position and handling requirements
- Approved power and network port schedule
- Onsite parts and customer shipment reference
- Management check and acceptance owner
Give the first server its own acceptance point
For a batch installation, ask the remote team to accept the first server before the engineer repeats the same layout. Confirm the physical identity, management reachability and the network connections named in the work order. The check belongs in the booked window.
Record which tests the remote team owns. Mounting and patching can finish successfully while IP addressing, switch configuration or a provisioning dependency remains unresolved. Define physical completion separately from application readiness so both teams know what they are signing off.
Keep operator circuit work out of the assumed scope
Customer-side patching follows your port plan within the authorised work area. A new Equinix cross-connect, an operator-managed path or a facility infrastructure change needs its own operator request and completion record. Confirm those prerequisites before asking the engineer to connect the new server.
If an expected port is unavailable, stop and obtain approval for a revised plan. A spare-looking port might serve another purpose. An evening installation should not expand into an undocumented network change because the original destination was missing.
Arrange entry for the whole job
Nominate the engineer for the correct LD4 customer space and a visit window that allows entry, installation and acceptance. If you need an escort, equipment movement or another operator service, confirm it when arranging access. Uplink's attendance does not automatically book those services.
Ask us to quote the full scope and agree how we handle missing parts, waiting for remote approval or a return visit. Evening and weekend work is regular scheduling for us, but the quotation still needs to cover the actual work. If the hardware is not ready, moving the visit may be the better choice.
Request the record you will need later
A useful handover connects the serial number to the final rack position and the approved cable labels. Add the remote acceptance result, unused parts and any deviation from the plan. Where photography is permitted, request the specific views required for your records; obtain the operator's permission before the visit.
Uplink provides independent server installation and rack-and-stack engineering for customer-owned equipment at Equinix LD4. Send us your intended evening, equipment list and installation pack through the request form so we can confirm cover and the work window.
Frequently asked questions
Can Uplink rack and stack servers at LD4 on a weekday evening?
Weekday evenings and weekends are regular working hours for Uplink. We target attendance at LD4 within 40 minutes, subject to engineer availability and traffic. We confirm the ETA when you book; customer-arranged access determines when work can start.
What do you need before quoting an evening installation?
Send the model and rail-kit references, rack position, handling requirements, shipment status, power and port plan, access window and remote acceptance contact.
Does server installation include ordering a new Equinix cross-connect?
No. Arrange operator-managed connectivity separately. Uplink carries out the agreed customer-side physical work after you confirm its prerequisites.
What if the rails or replacement cables are missing?
We agree whether a narrower inspection is useful or the visit should move. Confirm all required parts before the engineer travels to avoid an incomplete installation.
